Launching a New Neighborhood of Support

July 9, 2019

Our newest Bridge of Hope family is a mother (Susan) and her two young daughters. Susan partnered with Bridge of Hope after living in a shelter and last month was able to move her family into their own apartment. She’s a great mother and anxious to become self-sufficient. Susan possesses a strong drive to provide for herself and her children through hard work.

Last week, I had the opportunity to connect Susan and her daughters with their neighboring volunteers in an event called a “Neighborhood Launch.” The family and new neighboring volunteers met at a  park, shared a meal, and got to know each other through conversation and a few ice breakers. At the Neighborhood Launch the neighboring volunteers and I learned about her hobbies, favorite foods, and what she does for fun. It’s a fun time for me because up  to this point, my conversations with Susan have centered around getting her into safe and sustainable housing.

In my time at Bridge of Hope, the Neighborhood Launch has become one of my favorite things. I continually see God bring the right volunteers to each family we serve. He does it every time! Over the next 18-24 months, these volunteers will bless Susan and her children in countless ways. A few of these ways will include prayer, friendship, encouragement, childcare, freezer meals, and connections. Nobody can make it on their own, and these volunteers will be cheering Susan on as she works to achieve self-sufficiency for herself and her children. Susan’s family will also bless the neighboring volunteers. As the volunteers open their hearts to this family, God will bless these new relationships as only He can. Please be praying that the Lord would bless Susan, her children, and these neighboring volunteers during their journey together.
