Feeding the 5000, choosing the 12

June 25, 2018

We have more good news! A family will soon be graduating from Bridge of Hope AND we welcomed yet another family into the program. It’s because of your support that we can partner with these single mothers facing homelessness as they work towards self-sufficiency.
Many nonprofits in our community are doing amazing work and serving large numbers of people. For example, some soup kitchens provide meals for hundreds every week. While soup kitchens are absolutely needed, that’s not the work of Bridge of Hope. We serve a few, but our work truly transforms lives, and that work takes a great deal of time and resources.
Earlier this week I had the chance to meet with the Founder and CEO of a local nonprofit. Her life and work were truly an inspiration. Like Bridge of Hope, her organization serves a small number of beneficiaries and she had some words of wisdom to share. She said that Jesus fed the 5000, but he choose 12, and into those 12 he poured a great deal of love, time, and energy. The feeding of the 5000 was a true miracle, and no doubt a countless number of people came to follow Jesus because of it. For me, it has always been a reminder that Jesus cares about our spiritual AND physical needs. Yet her comment reminded me that it’s the 12 who went out, preached Jesus, performed miracles, and changed the world.
At Bridge of Hope, we feel honored to walk alongside families in crisis as they work towards self-sufficiency. Our numbers may be small, but our impact is enormous!
